600seconds. Challenge – ‘Take a Good Look in the Mirror’
Michelle Anderson peered back at her snickering children via the rearview mirror, on brow arched quizzically.
“What’s so funny, you guys?” She asked, switching off the mini van’s engine.
“You got grey hair, mommy,” Andrew giggled.
“Lots of them,” Tiffany added gleefully, smothering her grin behind her ice cream stained fingers.
Frowning, Michelle dug into her purse and pulled out a small compact mirror. She fanned her fingers through her hair, paying close attention to the temples. As she peered into the mirror, turning her way this and that, she saw them.
Gray hairs. And just as Tiffany had said, there were lots of them.
Michelle had never considered herself a vain person. She always thought she was above such petty nonsense. That did not mean that she didn’t take care of herself, because she did. Her health and that of her family was very important to her. Fresh fruits and vegetables were the order each and every day. Tae Kwan Do lessons three times a week kept her small frame toned and functioning smoothly.
She never wore make-up or jewelry because they irritated her skin and heels of any sort were out of the question because she valued her feet’s comfort over the fashion nonsense touted in the popular women’s magazines.
Now, as she stared at the gray hairs, she realized that perhaps she was a wee bit vainer that she had originally thought. This realization dismayed her. The gray hairs dismayed her even more.
“How come I never noticed these before?” She moaned to herself.
“It’s okay, mommy,” Andrew piped from the back seat. “We still think you’re pretty.”
