Wufei didn't know how long he had laid in the mud and grass beneath the maple trees, but the sun had set long ago plunging the world into darkness and shadows from which there was no immediate escape. The rain had stopped, at least temporarily, and a cool breeze caressed his wet body and he shuddered and trembled uncontrollably though he didn't realize it.
Slowly, he pulled himself to his feet, leaning one hand against the maple tree for support. Red darts of agony attacked him as he settled his weight onto his injured foot. Grimly he decided that it was only badly sprained for he doubted he could've put any weight on it at all if it had been broken. Gritting his teeth, Wufei took a hesitant step forward and found that it didn't hurt as much if he didn't put too much weight on it.
A sudden wave of dizziness engulfed him. He staggered as the world he knew, usually so full of sunshine warmth and pulsing life, fell easily away. Only the haunting memories of terror, pain, and a wild rush of ecstatic pleasure remained as he imagined waves of crimson blood burning down his throat to erupt like lava within his body.
The darkness seemed to solidify around him obliterating the landscape leaving only menacing shadows and the moon and stars above, coldly beautiful and indifferent. Apprehension welled up within him but he struggled to suppress it refusing to give in to a rising tide of panic that ripped through his body with razor claws.
Wufei stumbled to a painful halt shaking his head as if to clear it, clutching desperately to his sanity. Deep down he rationalized that this was merely a dream or vision from which he could easily awaken. Yet at the same time his mind was screaming that to fall into the trap of believing this to be only a dream would cost him everything he held dear, his life, his soul. His world.
Black eyes blindly scanned the inky darkness willing something to appear, anything that would give him some clue of what was going on. Above him the wind sang through the invisible treetops, soft and low like a mother singing a lullaby. The sound was deceptively soothing, a gently reminder of his long ago childhood and of warm summer nights spend under the stars. But under the murmuring of the wind he could hear the faintest traces of laughter, rich and velvety.
Suddenly a wave of electric power like an arctic wind slammed into him, whipping his silky hair into his face and tearing eagerly at his clothes. Cold invisible fingers slide under his shirt and along his skin. Goosebumps marched along Wufei's body and his nipples contracted painfully as a chill deeper than any he had ever experienced sank through his flesh and to his very bones. It snatched away his ability to think, to move, leaving him at its mercy, filling him with equal parts dread and anticipation.
A low voice drifted softly through the night, rich and elegant, evoking images of long luxurious nights spent exploring exotic delights. Smooth as silk it enveloped Wufei's body like a physical thing, caressing him. Wufei gasped harshly, his body rigid, his heart thundering in his ears.
"So, I've found you at last, young dragon."
Eyes that burned with blue fire appeared just a few feet away from where Wufei was standing and with a start he realized that he was not alone. Recognition dawned in a rush of complicated feelings that ran the gamut from blood freezing terror to animalistic lust as the figure of a man slowly emerged from the shadows.
Though they had never actually met, Wufei knew who - and what - stood before him and an excited tremor twisted through his body.
"Treize!"
He spoke the monster's name in a low hoarse voice and was amazed on how familiar, how right it felt flowing from his lips and off his tongue. Terror washed over him, but it was faint and dreamlike and Wufei realized that he couldn't tear his eyes from the man before him. His mind screamed at him to run but his body refused to obey.
The vampire wore a white silk shirt and cravat that gleamed like silver water beneath the wan light of the moon. Black slacks hung low on narrow hips and skimmed along his long muscular legs like a second skin until they disappeared into highly polished knee high boots. He was tall and lean, with short auburn hair and unbelievably blue eye. Pale skin glistened like polished marble under the dim light of the stars.
He glided towards Wufei and his movements were smooth and liquid like those of a dancer. As he approached the human the thin shadows of the night rippled and flowed along the ridges and planes of his muscular body, which were spattered here and there by smears of thick crimson.
The predator came to a halt before him, the line of their bodies almost brushing. Thin sensual lips twisted into a dazzling smile revealing just a hint of bloody fangs. An icy thrill shot through Wufei as the sharp metallic scent of blood poured over him. An answering hunger of shocking force ripped savagely through his stomach, buckling his knees and driving the breath from his body. Sweat trickled slowly down his face as he stared into those bewitching eyes.
A small trembling moan eased past Wufei's throat as he leaned closer, drawn helplessly by the scent of blood he craved so desperately. Trembling fingers slid shiny pearl buttons from their holes and pushed the slippery fabric aside to reveal the flesh beneath. As if in a trance he brought his hands back up to Treize's chest, resting the pads of his fingers lightly against his skin and the slightly tacky blood. He drew his hands down the muscular chest leaving red trails in their wake.
Treize threw his head back, pulling in a sharp hissing gasp. Strong hands gripped Wufei's shoulders, fingers digging into golden flesh in a grip that was almost painful. Almost shyly Wufei leaned forward and darted out his pink tongue to taste the blood that clung to the vampire's chest.
"Yes, my young dragon, yes." Treize whispered hoarsely, wrapping his arms about slender shoulders. A shudder of intense pleasure surged through his body as Wufei ran his tongue in wet lines down his chest.
Wufei raised his head, his eyes large, pupils dilated, to meet the gaze of the vampire before him. A thin smear of blood tainted his slightly parted lips and suddenly Treize's mouth was upon his tasting, devouring, a clash of teeth and tongues. Inhumanly strong hands encircled him, pulled him into a frantic embrace and nothing else existed or even mattered except for the heat of their union and of their struggle for dominance.
A fine tremor took hold of Wufei's body, as Treize's mind washed over him like a tide of hot blood and cold death and he felt his own mind slipping away from him. Darkness sucked him down, engulfed him, devoured him. It consumed his mind and heartlessly sought to extinguish the oh-so-small light deep inside that was his humanity. Cool as spring water, it caressed his flesh, soothing away his troubled thoughts, numbing him. It transformed him, freed him, and under its dubious protection he felt the shackles of sanity weaken and crumble away like so much dust.
"Your life force beckons me." Treize murmured breathlessly as he broke off the kiss. "I sense your strength, your power which lies dormant within you, like a sleeping dragon, full of mystery and magic. Open yourself to me, allow me to unlock the potential within."
Treize's voice caressed him and traced invisible fingers over Wufei's body, reaching deep inside to brush against an answering darkness deep within.
A sudden spasm of pain wracked Wufei's body, so bright and terrible it was as if he were being cleaved in two. With a hoarse cry his head was thrown back, his back bowing. Long fingers clawed at the air then clamped into fists.
Treize's hands stroked his flesh and his nerve endings were alive and trembling as a prickling wash of electric power danced along his skin. The pain intensified, morphed into something more, an unbearable combination of agony and ecstasy that shook him to the core of his being and threatened to rip him apart and destroy everything - all though, all feeling, all willpower.
With a small helpless sigh Wufei finally surrendered, the pain vanished and all tension drained from his body leaving him limp and relaxed. Bonelessly he slumped forward and would have fallen to the ground if Treize had not been there to catch him. Black velvet eyes became fixed and glazed and his breath caught in his throat and slowed under the backlash of mental energy that surged around him and through him.
As he surrendered control of his body, his mind leapt free to follow Treize's in a darkly disturbing journey of memory and sensations. He embraced the dark and sinister nature that resides forever in each and every soul. He wrapped it about his slender, powerful body like a cloak, revealing in his newfound freedom. His consciousness seemed to melt away and there was no life, no death, no distinction between right and wrong, good and evil.
In this new darkness visions danced and flickered and though they were not his own Wufei clasped them close to his heart and eagerly opened himself to them. Scents, thoughts, sensations swirled and merged forming a violent kaleidoscope of death and terror. A dark and sinister glee bubbled up from within some unknown depths of his soul and never before had he been so aware, so alive, so free.
As silent as death Wufei pounded through the night with Treize at his side, the sweet scent of blood beckoning him, urging him onward. The night air was thick with rain and blood and terror. A need, a hunger twisted through his body with amazing intensity, clawed at him and he would have doubled up with pain if not for the thrill of the hunt which drove him on ward, ever onward...
Fear wafted through the night and a woman's heartbeat, like countless before her, called to him, frantic, so alive. Loud as an avalanche it filled his world. Scalding blood surge through her veins, and it was her blood that he craved above all else. Her blood he needed for his very survival. Her destiny and his flew along the same path, intertwining, and for one unbearably short moment in time their lives and fate would collide and they would be of one mind, one body. Together they each one fulfilled their ultimate purpose in life - his to kill, her to die.
Wufei struggled against the bloody images of death that assaulted his mind, trying desperately to push the horror from him. He wanted no part of the world Treize presented to him, a world devoid of life, hope, love. But the unknown woman's dying screams called to him, filled him with a violent fervor he had never experienced, and her blood...
Her blood...
He ached to taste it, to roll it over his tongue, to feel its potent fire as it burned through him, filling him with stolen life and energy.
A shudder ripped through him and with one last valiant effort he managed to pull free of Treize's mind and abruptly he found himself back in his own body. He yanked himself from Treize's embrace, his heartbeat roaring in his ears, his breath ragged. He stepped back warily and cried out in pained surprise as his injured ankle buckled out from underneath him, spilling him to the ground.
"Those aren't my memories, my feeling." Wufei's gasped aloud. His voice was low and hoarse. Treize's eyes, so blue and somehow unfocused, fell upon him and the fire that burned in their depths were so very cold. Wufei retreated from those eyes, using his arms to push himself up to his knees then slowly, painfully, to his feet. With trembling, cautious steps he walked backwards, keeping his eyes on the evil creature before him.
"They aren't mine!" Wufei continued, his voice gaining strength with each word. "How can they be? I am no predator, no creature of the night. I'm human!"
"Yes, you are human, my young dragon." Treize murmured softly as he stepped forward. His arm reached out towards the retreating youth. "But you have the potential of being so much more."
"N-no!"
"Yes." Treize's voice, soft and urging, suddenly took on a colder, sharper edge. "I felt your hunger in my mind for many months, young human. And tonight I marveled as it stirred to even greater heights as I journeyed with you into my memories. Your hunger flared within you bright as the sun when I killed that poor woman. I felt it within my own heart... and you cannot deny that you did, too."
The blood drained from Wufei's face in a rush that left him feeling dizzy. It was true, a bloodlust that couldn't be denied had overwhelmed him and he had wanted to... needed to... to kill...
"NO!" he screamed wretchedly, he glanced behind him frantically and his car was just a few feet away. Hope surged strong within him.
"I didn't kill her! I didn't kill any of them! I'm not a murderer!"
Smooth and cool as silk Treize whispered softly, seductively. "No, you didn't kill her, didn't kill any of them, this is true." He stepped closer and reaching out, cupped Wufei's warm cheek with his cool hand. "But, you wanted to kill her."
"No, no -" A tiny shake of the head but Treize's touch was making it difficult for him to think, to reason. His back hit against the metal side of his car, and its solid presence was a blessing for his ankle throbbed and burned horribly and he doubted that he could walk much further.
"She excited you, drove you insane with need, with desire-"
"That's not true!" Wufei reached behind him, felt the smooth metal of the door handle, gripped it tightly with one sweat-slicked hand.
"Oh, but it is so very true."
Gathering up all of his strength, Wufei pushed his arm out stiffly towards the vampire, hitting him squarely in the chest. Treize stumbled back with a look of surprised outrage on his face as he lost his balance in the slippery grass and fell to the ground.
Wufei jerked open the car’s door and threw himself inside, pulling the heavy door closed behind him. The keys dangled in the ignition where he had left them and he turned them savagely and shouted in triumph as the car roared to life. He caught movement through the corner of his eyes and the heavy glass of the driver's side window crashed inward in a twinkling flood and Treize's arm shot through the glass and wrapped around his throat.
Treize's eyes blazed with an animalistic fury and his handsome mouth contorted in a hateful snarl revealing sharp, gleaming fangs. Wufei tried to scream, but the arm about his neck tightened and his air supply was cruelly cut off. His hands flew to his neck trying to break the monster's grip but his attacker’s own hands were strong and unmoving, like bands of steel.
Dark spots swam before his eyes, grew and multiplied. His lungs, deprived of air, burned painfully in his chest. Sound and feeling began to fade from Wufei as consciousness slipped away and he dimly heard the sound of the motor stuttered then died, killing his hopes as it did.
His arms fell limply away from his throat and suddenly he was falling as the arm was removed. He hit against the soft leather of the front seat and gasped harshly, filling his lungs with air as fast as he could. The door opened then slammed shut and the press of Treize's body was upon him, angry blue eyes glaring into his own wide, frightened ones.
Wufei screamed hoarsely as Treize grabbed a handful of his hair and yanked his head back savagely. Desperately he squirmed and kicked at his assailant but within the confines of the automobile and with Treize pinning him to the seat, his movements were greatly ineffectual. He beat his fists against the monster's hard, granite chest but his blows lacked sufficient strength to do any real damage.
Treize lowered his face towards Wufei, his panting breath hot against his skin, smelling like death and sour earth. He angled his head slightly and pressed his fangs over the frantically beating pulse that thundered under the taut golden flesh. Teasingly he ran his tongue along the skin and chuckled deep in his throat at Wufei's fearful moan. He then sank his fangs into his neck, piercing the flesh and releasing the blood that roared just beneath.
Wufei arched his back as pain ripped through him but was unable to utter a single sound as Treize began to feed. In a terrible rush he felt his life being drained from him. His heat poured into Treize's eager mouth and he felt the vampire's throat convulse as he drank it down, uttering soft sighs of pleasure as he robbed Wufei of his life's blood.
A deep penetrating cold filled his body, numbing him, and Wufei knew that he was dying. Heaviness settled in his limbs and they fell limply to his side, useless. His heartbeat that had only moments ago thundered in his ears slowed and began to fade. The pain, too, faded, becoming something else, a pleasurable tingling sensation that filled his still body as Treize's free hand slid under his water and mud splattered clothes to caress his cooling skin.
The whisper of cloth sliding over skin was heard within the silent confines of the car and then as if from a great distance, Wufei was aware of his clothes being pried away from his body one by one. He gasped as he felt Treize pressing boldly against him, his smooth muscular body flushed and oh so warm.
With dull and tired eyes he watched helplessly as Treize pressed apart his thighs and settled his body between them. Horror surged within him as he realized what was about to happen. His black eyes widened as he met those intense blue eyes and what danced in their depths wasn't human at all. They burned like flaming sapphires but were so cold, so ancient, so utterly evil. They were not Treize's eyes, but the eyes of the Devil himself.
Wufei's world shattered into a million agonizing shards as Treize thrust forward into his body. He stiffened against the savage intrusion and hot tears of pain and shame sprang to the corners of his eyes. Lacking the strength to scream or resist, he could only lie there and endure as Treize moved powerfully inside him. His eyes closed and with each terrible thrust Wufei willed himself to retreat further and further into the depths of his mind, and prayed to die.
After what seemed an eternity, Treize shuddered and groaned his release. Gasping, he collapsed against the weeping boy beneath him totally unaffected by the tears that slowly seeped down his pale, pale cheeks. After a while he withdrew and sat up, pulling Wufei's limp body into his strong arms, resting his dark head against his chest.
Silently, he brought one arm up to his blood stained lips and sank his fangs into the underside of his wrist, wincing slightly at the pain. Red blood gushed forth immediately. Gently he pressed the bleeding wound against Wufei's slack mouth and smiled softly as the first drops of blood slid between his unresisting lips.
Wufei's fading mind surged awake as Treize's blood slid down his throat and pooled in his stomach. The accompanying warmth spread wildly through his body and ignited his will to live. His lips clamped over the bleeding wound and his throat convulsed as he greedily swallowed the life-giving liquid. Strength and life slowly returned to his body and with it the burning desire for revenge. A shudder of murderous rage ran through his body and he vowed to someday kill the man who held him.
"Drink, my young dragon," Treize sighed softly as Wufei's lips moved then fastened themselves over his bleeding wrist. "Drink and become one with the night."
Liquid fire boiled inside Wufei and rushed through his entire body. His eyes flew open and glared wildly at the man who had unthinkingly condemned him to an eternity of misery. He pushed himself away from Treize and flung himself as far from him as the confines of the car allowed. Shakily he pulled his knees up to his heaving chest and wrapped his arms about them. From deep inside him, pain and rage clashed and burned and when he felt he could stand it no more, Wufei opened his mouth and let his anguish be known.
He screamed... and screamed... and screamed.
