600seconds. Challenge – ‘Sitting on the Fence’
“So, which will it be?” Patricia asked with deceptive nonchalance. Her straw rattled as she noisily slurped the last remaining Diet Pepsi from her glass. Martha, her best friend since third grade, slanted an annoyed look at her, shrugged, and raised her hand to catch the waitress’ attention.
“Two more Diets, please.”
The waitress hurried off and Patricia’s eyes followed her as she made her way towards the kitchen, skirt twitching prettily. After a few moments she reluctantly tore her eyes away and returned them to her friend.
“Well?” She prompted when no answer was forthcoming.
Martha dropped her gaze to her food, which she had barely touched. “I don’t know. Which do you think I should choose?”
Patricia leveled a blank stare at her. “You have got to be kidding, right?”
“Oh yeah… You’re a lesbian. Sorry.”
“That’s okay. Personally, if it were up to me, I’d choose Lucas. He’s young, well off, and has the tightest ass I’ve ever seen. I want to reach out and pinch him every time I see him just to see if it’s real.”
The waitress returned with their sodas and Patricia thanked her profusely, flashing a shamelessly flirty smile. The poor waitress turned beet red and hurried off, casting a bemused smile over her shoulder before disappearing into the kitchen.
“You’re incorrigible.” Martha sniffed.
“Hey, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.” Patricia sipped her soda thoughtfully for a moment. “On the other hand,” she mused, “Paul’s charming, sensitive and is obviously head over heels for you. I’d say their equally matched.”
“But how am I supposed to choose?”
“Honey, you could always try flipping a coin.”
