Many humans believed their sins were forgiven with the shedding of their Savior’s life’s blood. With bread and wine they commemorated this.

Take, eat: this is my body… He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, dwells in me, and I in him.

Smiling sadly, D closed his eyes, brought the goblet with its precious contents to his lips.

I’ll give it to you… my blood… my flesh. My heart itself, if you need it.

He drank a toast to his own savior, who had offered her life to cleanse the sin of his imperfection.

Do this in remembrance of me.

THE END

A/N: Is it a touch too religious? Perhaps, but the idea came very strongly to me and I had to try.

Ooooh, I like this, it's creepy. :)
(I remember being little and doing the whole communion spiel, and being thoroughly creeped out by what it represents.)

Thanks for reading!

I've never taken communion and it's been YEARS since I've been to church. But when I was brain storming at work for an idea for the challenge, the whole wine represents blood thing came to mind. Then I thought about how D had drunk the blood of his sister in Donor because he was born incomplete. I asked a co-worker about communion and she said, 'Go to church.' Yeah. That's not really helpful since in my religion we don't DO communion. ^^' So I had to Google it. haha

I wasn't raised a Christian (or with any religion, really) so it wasn't until I was an adult taking a World Religions class that I learned that some Christian sects (is it the Catholics? I forget...) believe that the communion wafers and wine are literally transmuted into the blood and flesh of Christ. That gave me a moment of squick. But then again, there's a lot of squick in the Bible in general... Not being raised in the faith, Christianity just confuses the hell out of me.

I don't think it's too religious, but I'm not particularly religious myself. I liked the parallel--it never occurred to me before, but it seems very apt--and thought it was very lovely, in a sad sort of way.
