I feel like I've been losing interest in anime in general and yaoi in particular. Not that I don't like either, it just seems that I can't find anything to catch my interest of late. The last anime series I really got into (though I could never write fanfic for it for some reason) was FullMetal Alchemist.

Can anyone recommend a really good anime? Death Note, Bleach and Naruto don't really appeal, though I've tried. The day-in-the-life stories of Japanese teenagers don't really hold much interest, either. Perhaps something with a really good plot and maybe some supernatural elements? It doesn't have to be yaoi, either.

I just don't have time to do a lot of browsing and I know I want something interesting... I just don't know what.

Hmm...I read a lot of manga, but I haven't really had time to watch much anime lately. One series I did watch that I loved was "Tactics," based on the manga. The main character is Kantarou, a young folklore expert and exorcist. He didn't have any friends as a child, because everyone thought he was weird because he can see spirits. So instead he made friends with the "demons". He has a kitsune girl and a demon-eating tengu (Haruka) as friends and servants.

It starts off as humorous, and there continues to be a lot of humor throughout the series, but the story gradually grows more serious as secrets from Kantarou and Haruka's past are slowly revealed. It's sort of like Petshop in that it seems like an episodic series, with Kantarou and his friends solving a mystery and/or banishing an evil spirit in each episode, but there's a more complex continuing subplot that slowly develops.

I like the supernatural/magical elements; the art is nice, and Haruka is especially nice eye-candy; there's a good sense of developing suspense, especially towards the end of the series; and I really got emotionally involved with the story and characters. It's not overtly yaoi, but Kantarou and Haruka have a close friendship, and I think they're often shipped together in fanfic. The series is collected on 5 dvds, and I think there's about 4 or 5 episodes per disc.

I should add as a disclaimer that I am a big Bleach fan, so my tastes may differ from yours. ^_^ But I do think this would probably be more to your liking than the typical shonen action-type anime.

Thanks for the rec! I think I'll hop over to imeem.com and see what I can find. It's been a while since I've gotten really hooked by an anime...
