I feel like I've been losing interest in anime in general and yaoi in particular. Not that I don't like either, it just seems that I can't find anything to catch my interest of late. The last anime series I really got into (though I could never write fanfic for it for some reason) was FullMetal Alchemist.

Can anyone recommend a really good anime? Death Note, Bleach and Naruto don't really appeal, though I've tried. The day-in-the-life stories of Japanese teenagers don't really hold much interest, either. Perhaps something with a really good plot and maybe some supernatural elements? It doesn't have to be yaoi, either.

I just don't have time to do a lot of browsing and I know I want something interesting... I just don't know what.

I'm sorry to hear about your waning interest in anime, and yaoi in particular.

Most of the series I know are manga, and not anime. And the anime I do know are difficult to find (like One Piece, but either way that doesn't really fit all your request elements), or I haven't watched all of it to determine whether it's good (like Soul Eater). I liked Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro very much, but I'm not sure it fits your "really good plot" request. Hmm...I'll keep an eye out for anything interesting, though!

But I do wish you good luck in finding a worthy series, because it's never a good thing when an anime fan disappears through lack of interest.

Hmm...I read a lot of manga, but I haven't really had time to watch much anime lately. One series I did watch that I loved was "Tactics," based on the manga. The main character is Kantarou, a young folklore expert and exorcist. He didn't have any friends as a child, because everyone thought he was weird because he can see spirits. So instead he made friends with the "demons". He has a kitsune girl and a demon-eating tengu (Haruka) as friends and servants.

It starts off as humorous, and there continues to be a lot of humor throughout the series, but the story gradually grows more serious as secrets from Kantarou and Haruka's past are slowly revealed. It's sort of like Petshop in that it seems like an episodic series, with Kantarou and his friends solving a mystery and/or banishing an evil spirit in each episode, but there's a more complex continuing subplot that slowly develops.

I like the supernatural/magical elements; the art is nice, and Haruka is especially nice eye-candy; there's a good sense of developing suspense, especially towards the end of the series; and I really got emotionally involved with the story and characters. It's not overtly yaoi, but Kantarou and Haruka have a close friendship, and I think they're often shipped together in fanfic. The series is collected on 5 dvds, and I think there's about 4 or 5 episodes per disc.

I should add as a disclaimer that I am a big Bleach fan, so my tastes may differ from yours. ^_^ But I do think this would probably be more to your liking than the typical shonen action-type anime.

Thanks for the rec! I think I'll hop over to imeem.com and see what I can find. It's been a while since I've gotten really hooked by an anime...

Let's see you could try Jigoku Shoujo which is a supernatrual show about a website where you write the name of the person you hate and get them sent to hell at a cost.

Also you could try Higurashi no Naku Koro ni about a guy named Keiichi Maebara whose family moves to a small village in the mountains. Every thing seems fine at first as he makes new friends and enjoys life there but after the local Shinto ritual takes place things take a turn for the werid. It's a very bloody show but defently worth watching as the plot is really intersting as you get drawn in trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

If you like animes where you hav to think theres Ghost Hound. It's about three boys (two of whom are in my avater) who start having out of body experiances and about why one of them was kidnapped when he was younger and the fallout from that. The plot/characters were design by Shirow(the guy behind Ghost In The Shell) and animation by Production IG. It's a great show and the boys are really interesting characters.

The last show I'm going to rec is Bokurano about a group of kids who meet a guy in a cave who asks them to beta a new computer game about a giant robot. They agree only to find it's not a game at all with deadly results. It's a brilliant show.

I enjoyed My-HiME, and Tsukuyomi MoonPhase manages to be supernatural (vampires!), cute, creepy, funny, and corny, all at the same time sometimes. They're not yaoi (My-Hime has a ton of yuri fodder, actually), but fun nonetheless, and the only ones I could think of off the top of my head.

Gunslinger Girl is not supernatural, but very awesome. I can't recommend the second (newer) season, though, because I didn't like it (it was made quite a while later by a different company).

Hubby would probably recommend Blood and Blood+ (more vampires). He knows more series than I do, so I'll check with him and see what else he might recommend.

It doesn't matter if the shows are yaoi. Yaoi is getting a little boring... there's a lot of things I see in the anime/manga that I don't like/approve of so I find myself steering away more and more often. Thanks for the recs! Vampire movies are usually worth at least the first watching. Though I detested the Blade trilogy...^^'

Moon Phase is actually a series, so you'll have plenty to watch. ^_^ My-HiME is a series that has a bunch of girls at a particular high school who develop some nifty supernatural powers, and chronicles the conflicts they go through with each other and outside forces as a result of said development. Both are a lot of fun.

Blade...eh. Didn't hate it, didn't love it. There are much better vampire movies/series/etc. Though I somehow don't think Twilight will be one of them.

Gunslinger Girl focuses on an agency that takes young girls that are terminally ill or injured and have no chance of otherwise surviving, and turns them into cyborg assassins in a cute-little-girl package. But they're still little girls, with many of the emotional issues that come along with that. I'm not doing it justice with my summary, but I don't want to ruin it for you. It's a pretty tragic series, but excellent nonetheless. The company that picked it up for a (much-demanded) second season added way too much fluff for many fan's tastes, including mine and my husband's, so we stick to reading the manga as we can find scanlations (it's an ongoing manga series, but they so far have only released volumes 1-3 in the US, and they only covered a few volumes in the anime).

I'm currently whoring out Sword of the Stranger to everyone I can - it's a film rather than a series, set in fuedal japan. It's - GORGEOUS, kinda action orientated but realistic with it! The characters are interesting, and the supernatural element is kinda "We've gonna do crazy rituals to make an emperor immortal!" The sub's available for torrent in lots of places (in fact! It is the only thing you can get hold of when looking for uh anything to do with it!), so it's relatively easy to get hold of?

Failing that, you could try [livejournal.com profile] small_fandoms - there's lots of recs being posted there, and most of what I've seen is supernatural-related anime/manga, often with links to downloads and stuff!
